Programme > Topical discussionsThe aim of these events is to provide a platform for a structured exchange of views and opinions on topics of current interest. They are intended to promote research pathfinding, kick-start collaborations, and build consortia able to target the most ambitious research and technological challenges. Note however that the topics of the discussions are tentative / placeholders at present, as they have not been properly scrutinised. Let us know if you wish to lead one of the discussions or to propose another one. Monday, 29 June
The AI is here to stay, and academia is not immune to its cons. Moreover, it is sensitive to its effects, as we have learned e.g. when dealing with students’ use of generative AI (such as ChatGPT) in assessments or trying to use it to enhance our teaching practices. Scientists of all kinds have started using it too: to produce code, to search literature, or (especially, early career researchers) to improve their scientific writing. These are all legitimate uses, but only until AI’s power is not abused. That is where the risks lie: AI can strongly amplify effects of poor academic practice. This may include flooding the literature with poor-quality research and fake claims, forging results, overwhelming peer-review system, compromising research funding processes, promoting groupthink, etc. The changes are happening increasingly fast, calling for an urgent action... or at least a discussion. Tuesday, 30 June
The panel(-s) will consist of the invited speakers of the first two days. Tentatively, the discussion will be centred around their research topics, in addition to the one above. Wednesday, 1 July
As it says - something to debate during the excursion! Thursday, 2 July
The panel(-s) will consist of the invited speakers of the relevant day(-s). Tentatively, the discussion will be centred around their research topics, in addition to the one above. The panel discussions may also be split into several separate events, each focussing on its own topic - this is still to be discussed / decided. Friday, 3 July
We will continue the work started at TRTM 2025 and discuss further ideas emerging from it. |
